Science Fiction World

Did you know that Chengdu is the most sci-fi city in China?

Science Fiction World (科幻世界), the largest circulation of science fiction magazine in China was established in Chengdu 40 years ago.

In 2007, the World Science Fiction Convention, the largest and most influential science fiction event in the world, came to Asia for the first time. Unsurprisingly, although the main venue was in Yokohama, Japan, their side event – China International Science Fiction Conference, was held in Chengdu, and was attended by famous sci-fi writers such as Robert Sawyer, Neil Gaiman, and Nancy K.

Fast forward to 2019, the record-breaking Chinese sci-fi action film, “The Wandering Earth”, was produced in Chengdu while Chengdu Guoxing Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd. participated in the development of the “Science Fiction World” AI satellite (star age-8), that was successfully launched on Dec 20, 2019.

Just recently, Chengdu announced its bid to host the 2023 World Science Fiction Conference. If the bidding were successful, #Chengdu will be the first city in #China to host the #Worldcon.
